A New Venture

LHS Class of 1961

Greetings!

I personally think the word “exciting” has just about lost its meaning in this world of marketing hype, but we are truly very excited and enthusiastic to announce a new service for the Class of 1961.

Thanks to the excellent work of Barb Zamadics Martin and Charlie Eichenberg, the full support of Susan Scholl and the reunion committee, and the framework created by Alumni Channel, we are launching an interactive website for the class today.  The fees are being covered by reunion funds—there is no cost to you.

The details are noted next, and I urge each of you to read them and then join. We know we had a huge class of 805 graduates, one of the largest in Pennsylvania at the time, filled with all kinds of people with all kinds of talents and interests and commitments.

Right out of high school, some of us got jobs, some went on to college or technical school, some went into the military, some got married. And some of us did all these things--just not at the same time.

Our continuing history over half a century is written by all of us.  If you were a stay-at-home parent and raised three kids, tell us. If you worked for one company for your career, let us know what you did.  If like our LHS alum of distinction Dave Waltz you got your Ph.D. and helped advance the field of artificial intelligence, we’d like to know.  But a life is more than work.  Do you carve children’s toys? Serve in a soup kitchen? Tutor kids in math? Raise horses? Play the organ at your church?  Hold elective office?

Are there differences in life experiences?  Sure there are.  But the real point is that we all lived our lives, and many of us—and not just those living away from Bethlehem--don’t know what happened to most people in our class.  This website gives us a chance to share.

The more people who participate, the better this form of communication will be.  So, please look at the material, let us know if we can help, and sign up.

And remember, our 55th is coming up on November 18 and 19.  After the initial reunion mailing, the website will be used for updates and all kinds of ways to connect with classmates.

Looking forward to seeing you on line and in Bethlehem this November.
